Vishy
Anand is the strongest chess player ever to come from India, and is
currently rated number two in the world, with Garry Kasparov in his
sights. He recently achieved clear first place at Linares (av. rating -
2752) ahead of Kasparov himself, Kramnik, Ivanchuk, Topalov, Svidler and
Shirov. No mean feat.
In this, his first book, he
presents detailed and entertaining commentaries to forty of his best
games. Anand's ability to get to the heart of complex positions, which
makes him a deadly opponent over the board, comes over supremely well in
his notes, which amply repay careful study.

The
fifth in the series of phenomenally successful training manuals by the
world's best chess trainer and his star pupil
In this eagerly awaited new work, Dvoretsky and Yusupov deal with the
most crucial aspects of chess:
1. Calculating Variations
2. Improving your Chess Intuition
3. Practical Decision Making
4. How to Attack, Defend and Counter-Attack |
The
attacking lines with f4 against the Sicilian were popularized during the
1980s on the British tournament circuit. Regular devotees of the Grand
Prix Attack have included Nigel Short, Mark Hebden and Julian Hodgson,
who have used it to score many devastating victories.
White's main aim in many lines is a
quick, and often sacrificial, kingside attack, but the opening can be
treated positional by both sides and with careful play Black's chances
should be adequate.
