    The Interplay US Championships 1999 ran August 23rd-September 10th in Salt Lake City. As last year (and also the French Championships below) the event will have two round robin events followed by a knockout between the top two players in each group. Boris Gulko won the title after defeating Gregory Serper in the first two games of the four game final. The final game was a fairly brief draw to give Gulko a 2.5-0.5 victory.

    In the four game semi-finals both finished level. Gulko won the first game and Seirawan the second in their match whilst Serper and Yermolinsky drew all their games. Games three and four of the semi-finals both games were drawn. The playoffs saw Gulko win through after two g/25 games and two g/15 games (he won the last with black). Serper reached the final by winning both g/25 games.
